Eye On College Basketball

After nearly two weeks off, Salem (W.Va.) University’s men’s basketball team returned to action with a fiery win Thursday night.

Salem (11-4) downed Kentucky Wesleyan, 82-76.

Bartlesville High graduate Barron Tanner is second-year starter for Salem.

In Thursday’s win, Tanner buried two three-pointers and scored eight points. He also amassed three rebounds, one block and one steal.

Jena’ Williams

Jena’ Williams is a basketball player of many talents.

The former Bartlesville High School standout displayed pretty much all of them to help power the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to a recent historic win on the women’s basketball hardwood.

Williams scored four points, dished out five assists, pulled down six rebounds and racked up a steal during the 62-50 victory against Grand Canyon.

This would also be the 350th career triumph for UTRGV head coach Lane Lord.

But, Williams has sat out the past couple of games due to an injury protocol.

Avery Allen

Another former Lady Bruin hardwood standout Avery Allen has helped boost the University of Central Oklahoma women’s hoop team to some important recent wins.

She scored five points and contributed two assists and a steal in a 66-52 shelving of Newman University.

UCO beat Northeastern State, 69-52, as Allen compiled three assists, two steals and a rebound.

UCO reached its 10th win in an 86-72 thumping of Rogers State.

Allen didn’t commit a turnover in 24 minutes and contributed two points and four assists.

Kansas swimming

The University of Kansas women’s swimming team is set for a Crimson vs. Blue competition this weekend. Three Bartlesville High girls compete for Kansas — Kate Steward, Greta Olsen and Erin Downey. In addition, current Bartlesville Lady Bruin senior Aidan Howze has signed a letter of intent as part of Kansas’ recruiting class of 2022.

Rogers State track

Following about a month-and-a-half break, the Rogers State women’s indoor track team revs back into action. Two Bartlesville High connections on the squad are freshman Jillian Skalicky and sophomore Elena Fries. Skalicky has set multiple team records in women’s cross country or track competition. Rogers State is slated to go all out Saturday at the MIAA Rust Buster in Topeka, Kan.

Oklahoma State track

Bartlesville High graduate Rilee Rigdon is a returning All-Big 12 finisher from last season. Rigdon is a distance runner for the women’s team. OSU started the 2022 season by competing this weekend in the Arkansas Invitational.

Benedictine College track

Bartlesville High graduate Alex Merrifield is a sprinter for Benedictine. The indoor season gets underway Saturday at the MIAA Rust Buster in Topeka, Kan.
